IPC, the Global Trade Association for electronics manufacturing industry is happy to announce 3rd edition of Integrated Electronics Manufacturing & Interconnections (IEMI) events scheduled at Malaysia & India during July 2024. 3rd edition of IEMI will be organized at Malaysia on July 24 & 25, 2024, and Bengaluru on July 29 & 30, 2024

IEMI 2023 events at Chennai (August 1) & Pune (August 3) witnessed around 1000+ delegates, 200+ B2B meetings, presentations by experts, panel discussion, technical sessions, display of products & services, final skill challenge competitions and participation of international delegates.

WHN met up with Manvi Kapoor, Manager – Events & Communication for the event at the EWPT Expo to discuss IEMI 2024:

WHN: Can you give us an overview of the events? What types of companies will be exhibiting? Who is your target audience?

Manvi: IPC has developed an annual industry networking forum in the South Asia region – Integrated Electronics Manufacturing & Interconnections (IEMI). 3rd edition of IEMI events will be organized at Penang, Malaysia on July 24-25, 2024 & Bangalore, India on July 29-30, 2024. Penang event is organized in conjunction with Electronics Manufacturing Expo Asia – the largest electronics show in Malaysia attracting 8,000+ visitors. Penang event will be themed as “Advanced Packaging of Semiconductors” and Bangalore event will be focussed on defence & aerospace.

The two countries events are focussed in bringing together players in electronics industry – OEMs, EMS, PCB manufacturers, cable &wire harness manufacturers, advanced packaging & semiconductor companies, and electronics industry suppliers.

Electronics components, hand tools, flux, SMT, equipment, EMS will be part of exhibitors at Malaysia & India

WHN: How many exhibitors and how many attendees do you project to have?

Manvi: For the Malaysia event, we are targeting over 400 delegates. For the India event, we have projected over 1,000 delegates with 50+ exhibitors.

WHN: What are the main goals for the events?

Manvi: Strategic alliances, export leads, business partnerships, investment promotion, source product & services and gain technical knowledge will be the major deliverables from IEMI 2024

WHN: How long have these shows been running and how have they evolved over time?

Manvi: IEMI 2024 will be the 3rd edition of IPC event in South Asia

WHN: What educational opportunities are available for attendees?

Answer: At IEMI educational opportunities include technical workshops, keynote presentations, panel discussion by expects from semiconductor/defence/aerospace. The sessions cover the latest trends, technologies, and best practices, providing valuable insights and learning experiences for attendees and they can understand more of the standards.

WHN: We have noticed a huge increase in readership from India. Tell us about electronics manufacturing and why has it exploded over the past few years?

Manvi: Overall, electronics manufacturing has exploded in recent years due to a combination of technological advancements, global connectivity, cost efficiency, consumer demand, government support, supply chain resilience, and environmental considerations. These factors have created a dynamic and rapidly evolving industry with vast opportunities for growth and innovation.

WHN: Can you tell us more about electronics assembly in Malaysia?

Manvi: Electronics assembly in Malaysia is a thriving industry, driven by the country’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and supportive government policies. Many electronics companies in Malaysia invest in research and development (R&D) to drive innovation. Collaboration with local universities and research institutions further strengthens the industry’s technological capabilities.

Apart from EMS, Malaysia plays important role in global chip making supply chain. As the world’s sixth largest semiconductor exporter, Malaysia holds 7 per cent of global market share and contributed to 23% of US semiconductor trade in 2022. The country has an established presence in chip assembly, packaging and testing as well as electronics manufacturing services, producing 13% of global back-end semiconductor output.

WHN: What types of harnesses are being produced in India? In Malaysia?

Manvi: In India, we produce a variety of harnesses, including automotive wiring harnesses, aerospace wiring harnesses, and industrial equipment harnesses. In Malaysia, production encompasses automotive wiring harnesses, aerospace wiring harnesses, consumer electronics harnesses, medical equipment harnesses, and telecommunications and network cables. Both India and Malaysia are dedicated to producing a wide range of harnesses that focus on quality and compliance with international standards.

Wire harness industry in India is growing due to growth of aerospace, defense, automotive and medical devices market. The market size for cable assembly is expected to witness significant growth in the forecast period due to the increasing adoption of advanced technologies such as 5G, IoT, and AI, which require high-speed and reliable data transmission. Moreover, the growing trend towards miniaturization and modularization of electronic devices is expected to further boost the demand for cable assembly solutions and boost the bottom-line of the companies.

WHN: What opportunities are there for exhibitors to highlight their products?

Manvi: For exhibitors at the Integrated Electronics Manufacturing Interconnections event, there are numerous opportunities to showcase products. These include presenting innovative solutions, networking with industry leaders, and participating in discussions to highlight their expertise and advancements in electronics manufacturing. It’s a platform to connect with potential clients and partners, enhancing visibility in the global electronics industry.

WHN: How does IPC plan to grow these events in coming years?

Answer: IPC IEMI event has been growing due to the industry demand & feedback. IEMI 2024 will be seeing participation of companies beyond India & Malaysia – USA, Europe, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, UAE, South Africa, Isarel & Egypt.
